IS IT LEGAL TO POST ELECTION SIGNS IN MY YARD/WINDOW?

Yes it is! If you feel strongly about a candidate and/or issue and wish to make your feelings public you may do so.

As of January 1, 2012 Senate Bill 337 has given tenants the right to display election and other political signs. In single family homes, a political sign can be displayed in the yard, window, balcony, outside wall and door.

In multifamily dwellings, a sign may be posted on a door or window. The landlord does have the right to limit the size to 6 feet square and restrict posting to 90 days prior to the vote/election day and to be removed 15 days after the election/vote.

Please check your city’s municipal code for a complete understanding of rules and regulations pertaining to signage size and removal dates. There may also be additional regulations if you have a homeowners association or live in a planned community.
