LA JOLLA known as the ‘Jewel of San Diego’ is one of the most beautiful areas coastlines in Southern California. Originally part of the Kumeyaay Nation, it was incorporated into the City of San Diego in 1850 and subsequently grew to include such neighborhoods at Bird Rock, Windansea, La Jolla Shores, La Jolla Farms, The Village, La Jolla Heights and Muirlands. Surrounded on three sides by ocean bluffs and beaches, it’s 7 miles is bounded by Torrey Pines Preserve on the North, 5 and University City on the East, Pacific Beach on the South and the stunning Pacific Ocean on the West.

In addition to being the home of about 4300 residents, it is also home to the prestigious University of California, San Diego(UCSD), the Salk Institute, the Scripps Institute of Oceanography, Scripps Clinic and Green Hospital, VA Hospital and Mount Soledad. Commercially it offers not only the Village of La Jolla and Bird Rock with many small shops and restaurants, but also a larger La Jolla Village Shopping Center.

Educationally it is managed by the San Diego Unified School District which includes La Jolla Elementary, the first public school built in 1896; Bird Rock Elementary, Muirlands Middle School, La Jolla High School and Preuss School UCSD, a public charter school. La Jolla also has many private schools such as Bishop’s School, the Children’s School, Stella Maris and Gillespie School.

In addition to the beautiful beaches, other major attractions include the Torrey Pines Golf Course which hosts an annual winter PGA Tour event ; the Museum of Contemporary Art, the La Jolla Playhouse, Mandell Weiss Theater, and the Torrey Pines Gliderport.
