Del Mar Homes For Sale, Del Mar Real Estate

DEL MAR, Spanish for “of (by) the sea” was purchased by Colonel Jacob Taylor in 1885 to become a seaside resort for the rich and richer. One of the few locations in the nation in which the rarest pine, the Torrey Pine grows, Del Mar is bounded on the South by the Torrey Pines Beach and Natural Preserve; the North by another seaside community, Solana Beach; the East by I-5 and Carmel Valley and the West, of course, by the mighty Pacific Ocean with its beautiful beaches.

A total of 1.8 square miles, it has a population of about 5,000 year- round residents. With the median age of 44, 67% of the residents are between 25-64 years of age. This is not counting the summer residents when the San Diego County Fair and Del Mar Fairgrounds and Race Track are in session.

This charming town has a true village feel with ocean front parks, farmer’s markets, Craftsman style library, a lovely ocean view commercial plaza and quaint shops and restaurants. With popular schools and quality of life Del Mar real estate continues to be sought after by buyers and renters of all ages.
